In response you lot stepped it up a notch, nad matched them. Part of that was in turn spending even *more* than Chelsea themselves. Over your current run, you'v spent more than them. However, the fact that you spent money doesn't make you illegitimate. We've only spent more in recent seasons because Abramovich had already forked out half a billion quid, saw he wasn't getting value and shut his wallet. United had to build another team. Which Fergie did, and duly overtook Chelsea again.

The more important aspect is do Man U have the cash flow to pay off the debt while at the same time keep the club running ... to which the answer is yes at the moment. The worst case scenario is having to sell players to balance the books leading to a downward spiral in popularity and therefore income to service such a large debt. Will it happen ... probably not. I expect Man U to be sold in the next five years or so and the Glazers to go away with a large smile on their faces. |
