I am using your own criteria, which was "He (Messi) works best when the opposition are distracted by some other focal point." I agree with you that that has been the case with Messi, while Ronaldo OTOH has never played with a real playmaker, and still delivered, which means that Ronaldo has stood up to tougher tests than Messi. The current Argentina team is the first time Messi is playing without a playmaker, and if he still delivers then he can stake his claim to greatness, and if he cant then the jury is still out on him.

Definitely not striker tall.

But the point I'm making is that they both have their limitations. CR, despite what you claim about him, HAS played in teams with play-makers and a style of methodical build-up play and has flopped badly in that situation. Look at his NT. His game is built 90% on speed. Make that aspect irrelevant and he becomes largely irrelevant.

Definitely not striker tall. He's between 5ft 10 in - 5ft 11. This is the best I can come up with in terms of size and talent : GK. Andujar (6ft 4.5in) RB. Garay (6ft 2.5in) CB. Samuel (5ft 11.5 in) CB. Gonzalo Rodriguez (6ft) LB. Insua (5ft 8in) LM. Datolo (5ft 9in) CM. Lucho (6ft 1.5in) CM. Gago (5ft 10in) RM. Rodriguez (5ft 10in) MF. Messi (5ft 7in) FW. Higuain (6ft 1.5in) or Milito (5ft 10/11in) Argentina are seriously lacking in the full back positions. I haven't seen much of Garay but my understanding is he's mainly a centre back but can play at right back. -- http://soccer-europe.com Rss feed : http://soccer-europe.com/RSS/News.xml |
