Some early cosmic justice?

Two early Uruguayan attacks snuffed by dubious offside calls.

18' GOLAZO!! 0-1 (van Bronckhorst 18)

WOW!!!

That may be the goal of the tournament -- not just one of them.

30 yards or so out, van Bronckhorst rifles a no-chance shot off the
upper right corner of the post completely across the goal -- keeper
has no shot!

GOLAZO!!

Incident as Uruguayan player drills Dutch player with a blast across
the nose as he (the Uruguayan) was trying to bicycle a clearance
attempt.

Caceras draws a yellow for that. Both players went for the ball, but
clearly dangerous.

Good chance for the Dutch taken out just after that.

HT 1-1 (Forlan 41 -- van Bronckhorst 18)

The kind of match I've been waiting for the whole damn tournament --
except for the chippy nature of it that could explode in a tense
second half!!

Of course, the longer it goes, could be another "gamble" by the
Uruguayans to get their way to the Grand Final??

FANTASTIC SEMIFINAL!

Uruguay is playing great defense all over the field, accounting for
the Dutch problems. They do miss Suarez but have looked dangerous a
few times.

Van Bronkhorst's goal was very similar to the one Haan scored
against Italy in 1978 to put them in the final. It was from almost
the same spot, and took almost the same trajectory, even though Haan
did it with the top of his right foot and got some reverse spin on it.
Zoff and Fulsera dived vainly in just the same way.

Forlan hit a great shot, a better shot than I thought he could
with his left foot. What a man.

I'm not even sure who I'm rooting for at this point but I'll be
rooting for the winner in the final. And boy, is this a beautiful
color spectacle or what! Great uniforms.
