Your goal is to re-create the Spain NT that won the WC... using non-
I.e. you have to name the 11 players that are in your opinion more
similar to the ones that Del Bosque fielded against Nehterlands:
You can't use any player already named by another RSSer, nor any of
the Dutch XI (you'll soon see why).
Deadline: July 25, 23:59 GMT.
I'll then compute your score, that is the sum of the degrees of
similarity between each of your players and the corresponding Spanish
player. The RSSer with the better (i.e. lower, see below) score will
E.g. if you submit Netherlands' XI, your score is 2,171:
van der Wiel, Gregory
van Bronckhorst, Giovanni
van Bommel, Mark
de Jong, Nigel
van Persie, Robin
Lower values means less dissimilarity = more similarity, i.e. are
better. I.e. the most similar players are Villa-van Persie, the less
similar are Iniesta-Robben.
The parameters that determine the degree of similarities are:
- current ability
- fitness in each position
- the following abilities: Acceleration, Adaptability, Aerial Ability,
Aggression, Agility, Ambition, Anticipation, Balance, Bravery, Command
Of Area, Communication, Composure, Concentration, Consistency,
Controversy, Corners, Creativity, Crossing, Decisions, Determination,
Dirtiness, Dribbling, Eccentricity, Finishing, First Touch, Flair,
Handling, Heading, Important Matches, Influence, Injury Proneness,
Jumping, Kicking, Long Shots, Long Throws, Loyalty, Marking, Natural
Fitness, Off The Ball, One On Ones, Pace, Passing, Penalties,
Positioning, Pressure, Professionalism, Reflexes, Rushing Out, Free
Kicks, Sportsmanship, Stamina, Strength, Tackling, Teamwork,
Technique, Temperament, Throwing, Versatility, Work Rate, Tendency To
Punch, Left Foot, Right Foot
- rating in each position
Each of these parameters can have a value between 0 and 100. Each
parameter is treated as a point in a 95-dimension space: what I do is
computing the Euclidean distance between the two players in such a
Tip: since current ability accounts for just 1% of the similarity (but
it also influences the rating in each position!), a player that is of
the same kind of the Spanish one, even if far worse (or better...)
than him, will assure you a good score. For the same reason, picking a
player that is exactly as good, but very different in his style of
play, will give you a bad score.

Any players from the past, or current players?
Do we post them here?

Current players. (again: not from Spain, not in the Dutch XI, not
already used by a RSSer)

Sorry, I had to specify.
I'm looking forward for your submission!

OK, let's try this:
> Casillas, Iker
> Sergio Ramos
> Piqué, Gerard
> Puyol, Carles
> Capdevila, Joan
> Busquets, Sergio
> Xabi Alonso
De Rossi, Daniele
> Iniesta, Andrés

Spain is a very mobile team! Since current ability accounts for just 1%, I'm
picking players who I think match closely at their peak.
