So your whole family is so brainwashed they'll die and kill under
orders so that the oil profiteers can continue to make millions of
dollars. Same as the British troops over there they have no one else to
blame if they come back in body bags and neither do you. Do you really
believe that everyone who is not stupid enough to enlist is a coward?
Maybe seeing some of your family coming back in body bags is the only
way for you to learn

....because the absolute most convenient and CHEAPEST way to get oil is
to start a war?

Uh, your numbers are straight from either the calorie count of Michael
Moore's typical snack or George Soros' bank account. Even the ultra-lib, USA
hating U.N. think your casualty numbers are as real as a perpetual motion
machine. Do us a favor and suck on an exhaust pipe.

It is PAINFULLY obvious that neither you nor the anonymous twats at the
discussion site know anything about the defenses of a US Carrier. They have
4 layers of protection against such threats. They carry the longer range
Nato Seasparrow surface-to-air missiles, the closer range Raytheon RAM
(Rolling Airframe Missile) system, and of course the old stand by, General
Dynamics 20mm Phalanx six-barreled Mk 15. They also carry four Sippican
SRBOC (Super Rapid Bloom Off-board Chaff) 6-barreled Mk 36 decoy launchers,
which deploy infrared flares and chaff, SSTDS torpedo defense system and
AN/SLQ-25 Nixie torpedo countermeasures system and the Raytheon AN/SLQ-32(V)
electronic warfare system detects hostile radar emissions by two sets of
antennae and the system analyses the pulse repetition rate, the scan mode,
the scan period, and the frequency. The system identifies the threat and
direction, provides a warning signal and interfaces to the ship's
countermeasures systems.

None of which are even remotely useful against Yakhont or Klub, both of
which are floating around the middle east and China.

You also miss the most important bit of a carrier's air defence - the
aegis cruiser that accompanies every one. Which, sadly, is also not going
to help against these missiles.

Yeah. Perhaps even less useful than the above against missiles.

Great, so you pick the missile up the second it comes over the horizon -
with a 65-metre tall carrier (that's being generous), that's a smidge
under 30 km. At mach 2.5, which is what these missiles do, that gives you
35 seconds to do something. Good luck with that.

No, the only way to defend a carrier against this sort of threat, as the
US navy well knows, and expresses in its doctrine, is to stop a launch
platform getting in range. If you have sophisticated airborne radar above
water and world-class sonar below it, and a wing of ASW helos and strike
aircraft to deal with what you find, as a carrier group does, you can do
this.

Unless, of course, you happen to be near an enemy coastline. Psych!

ObOT: still not convinced about Fabregas, COME ON TIM, and MILK AND
SQUATS.
