However, logically your statement is not a refutation of the original. It is quite possible that the recent trophy hauls are due to smart buying of players. Without an exhaustive analysis of each player's part in the successes, you can't make definitive statements. The club's most successful period coincides with one of it's best periods of bringing youth through the ranks. It really started with the teams they brought up through the 50s. The greatest players to have worn the shirt nearly always have been players that the club developed itself, I'm talking about names like Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, George Best, Duncan Edwards, Bobby Charlton, David Beckham RED DEVIL

We have always used academy lads, whilst liberally adding to them with biggish spends. I think our academy, like all others, goes through ups and downs...and many fans, nuetrals and pundits think we're currently on an up in that respect. I agree. -- Legend-11 Forget about Ronaldo. Your Carlos Tevez too. 'Cos we've got a player who's United through and through. If we don't bid, I think lies over our finances will have been exposed. You simply cannot say there is "no value in the market" while this player is going for that little, due to the fact he could walk out for nothing in 12 months. IF he was rooted in a long-term contract, he would be a 30m player after his world cup performance. No value in the market? Pft! -- Legend-11 Forget about Ronaldo. Your Carlos Tevez too. Pft! > There's the rub If he is that great, why aren't Europes finest tripping over themselves to sign him? Why? Thruth is, he is the upper reaches of ordinary. Cut through the Red Top and Talk Spurt crapola and we what have in Ozil a decent, good quality squad player. Despite what you might have read, he really isn't that special. To make room for him in the United squad that is really only in want of a defesive midfield player we would have to demote someone. As RD said, poor man's Fletcher - there is truth in that. Would you trade a starting slot with Fletcher for Ozil? I certainly wouldn't. Trust in SAF. He knows more than we can summon between us. |
