As to the question, I always thought of the 98 French side as a defensive juggernaut. Of the two most talented attacking players, one was probably just past his prime (Djorkaeff) and the other (Zidane) was still to reach it. They didn't play very imaginative football in the tournament as a result. Spain in 2008 were more balanced and played attractively. The French team of 2000 was awesome (though still lacking a striker for the big matches/tournaments) and came up against some other great sides, e.g. Italy and Portugal. This Spain has played Germany and that's about it but are still a well balanced team and have had a terrific record over the last few years. They also lack a Zidane though some of the individual players are still great to watch. So in short, I think I'm sitting on the fence on this.

This was the Trezeguet before the chronic injuries, and he was clinical.

Spain has briliant players who can make briliant dribbles and briliant passes, I know they are great and this barcelonian tactic works well, but they play too slowly sometimes, it's often boring watching them passing the ball for hours at 2 km/h.

Just thinking about the waste the WC02 was makes me want to cry. (but don't worry, I feel nothing (positive) for the WC10 team) France played some of their best of their best games ever between 2000 and 2002 (France - Portugal 4-0, Turkey - France 0-4), although those games were only friendlies (since the title holder was still automatically qualified) and won't be remembered.

An all time great defence and midfield. There's nothing special about this Spain team. They bore the opposition into submission. -- http://soccer-europe.com Rss feed : http://soccer-europe.com/RSS/News.xml
