These early freemasons began to argue with the Christian martyr Stephen, and as it is written "could not stand up against his wisdom or the Spirit by whom he spoke." Producing false witnesses, they brought him before the Sanhedrin, and after Stephen bore his testimony, they dragged him out of the city and stoned him.
