In what way is this post bizarre?

Houllier was sacked because fans, players and board said he'd taken us as
far as he could, and they demanded that we get a better manager instead,
one who would be able to sign top-quality, expensive talent.

Is that true or false?

Was Benitez considered a better manager?

Yes he was.

Did he bring in expensive talent from all over the world?

Yes he did.

Has this policy worked?

Not if you look at where we finished in 2009-2010 it hasn't. No matter how
you try to spin it SEVENTH is considerably worse than FOURTH. And because
Rafa has blown all the money seventh is likely to be even worse next
season. OK that's just guesswork but it's hardly a bizarre proposition.

And has Rafa now - belatedly - decided, after six years of getting it
wrong, with the wholehearted backing of the fans, that perhaps it might be
a better strategy to improve the academy and sign promising youth instead?

Yes he has. Six years too late.

Let's just remind ourselves why Rafa was brought in in the first place,
shall we? He was brought in to *IMPROVE* on Houllier. Those were Rick
Parry's words. Fourth is not acceptable, he said; we need to bring in a
manager who can take us further, a manager who is likely to cross that
final hurdle to the title. Has Rafa done this? No he hasn't. His best
effort was last season when we finished second, something Houllier did in
his third full season.

Bizarre?

I don't think so Mozzer.

My guess is you just don't want to face up to the awful reality of what
has just happened to Liverpool under Rafa, and so you play this little
game with Popey instead, hoping that the questions he raises will just go
away.

Perhaps next season when we're struggling to stay in the top half it will
dawn on you?

I somehow doubt it. You'll still tell us it was right to sack a manager
for finishing fourth in his sixth season for a manager who finished
seventh in his sixth season. Oh well - I did try to warn you.

I'm happy to sit here forever listening to these diversionary ploys of
yours Mozzer. It means you no longer have any grounds for defending Rafa.

Houllier - sixth season - 100 million spent - 4th place finish & CL
qualification

Benitez - sixth season - 240 million spent - 7th place finish & no CL
qualification

I guarantee we will finish fourth he said.

hehehehe

So much for his empty promises eh! But at least you have the Yanks to
blame for Rafa's spectacular failure. Where would you be without those two
eh?

I'm trying not to look like I'm unfairly bashing Benitez, but I
beleive he's a first team signing. If he isn't, it's even more
unnecessary.

First of all, defenders are hardly our most presssing need and
secondly, if we really are out of money, we need to use every penny we
have wisely. If we can make a 20m bid instead of a 17m bid on an
attacking midfielder.......?

Thing is Rafa will say we need money and we need signings. Ok, that's
3 already--Wilson, Shelvey and Jovanovic. I hope that's enough of the
bargain signings. Hopefully Jovanovic is not another Voronin and
hopefully he's actually played as a STRIKER. But now that 3 players
have been signed on the cheap shouldn't we look for one or two proper
signings? We don't need 100 players--but we do need to trim the
squad, at some point the revolving door has to stop. El Zahr, Degen,
et. al. get rid of--and they *shouldn't* be replaced, just promote
the likes of Kelly and Pacheco instead.

Dude, Ayala and Kelly?
