My overriding memory of him was ungentlemanly sportsmanship against Cliff Thorburn. Lets face it the man was an absolute idiot who threw everything away. I suppose there'll be some people who'll find he hellraising past admirable and comparable to George Best . However fpr me George was more of a charming gentleman and a far better footballer than Higgins was a snooker player. Never the less still sad.

He made snooker popular, had everyone watching it for his flamboyant style and his 'characterful' episodes. As I recall, he used to chain smoke and drink Scotch during every match, but he'll always be remebered for pissing in a plant-pot 'cos he couldn't be arsed to find the gents. -- SteveH

There is always this sense of waste when those with just one exceptional talent, which is good enough to bring them a fine living as players, and possibly pundits, fail to use it to the full when lesser talents have done so well from a game.
