Had he picked a random number and book the player with that number on his shirt, it couldn't have been more random.

Apart from that he could have shown Mascherano a yellow earlier, and sent off Otamendi - but I think the more lenient style was good for Germany overall. Its not a small quibble though, now Germany will miss one of their best against Spain (most likely).
