How much farther did Lampard have to put the ball into the goal in order for
it to count? I thought the rule was that the entire ball had to be past the
entire goal line. It was clearly that. So how much farther into the goal
would the ball have to be to count?

It didn't need to go any further. It was over the line. No-one is
disputing this now. The goal should have been given. The ref and
linesmen were not in a position to have seen this. The German
goalkeeper clearly saw it cross the line. He admits this now. In the
more honest days of football, the keeper would have simply left the
ball where it was, having seen it cross the line. Unfortunately,
honesty in sports is a thing of the past, and he took a chance that
maybe someone didn't see it and pulled it out. He probably couldn't
believe his luck.

Thank you for the honest answer. Now perhaps you understand why Americans
reject football and FIFA.

That is one fucked up and worthless and meaningless game if the goals scored
do not even count.

You can have it. It is so messed up that nothing even matters or even
counts.

Matters enough that you have spent every waking moment of the last fortnight
posting about the game.... have a word with your psychiatrist he may be able
to help you over this strange new obsession.

There is not much going on in sports over here in America beside the endless
baseball regular season. So I have been watching this FIFA World Cup
tourney. The game sucks and the officials are even worse.

And then the team from Japan put a defended in to take the after hours free
kick. What did you think would happen? He missed the goal. What did you
think would happen? Did you think that the defender would actually be able
to kick the ball correctly? No. If he could kick the ball he would be on
offense instead of defense.

It is a terrible game. Nothing at all about this game makes the least
sense.
