None of the expected 'best players in the world' have done much this world
cup and its not just the premiership players. Ronaldo fired blanks as did
Messi and the latter was in a squad that created chances.

The Germans dealt with Messi perfectly, they pressed the Argentinians
and this pressure pegged Messi into deep positions thus he was
ineffective and not able to play the role that he does so well for
Barca. They were quick to the tackle and smothered Messi and Co and
gave them no space. Schweinsteiger was absolutely first class and the
England players could learn a lot from him.

Yes, the Germans are incredibly disciplined. If you watch their game v
Argentina, several times they left balls that they could have challenged for
(or won easily) in favour of staying in position. If the ball landed in
midfield midway between them and an Argie, the Germans didn't go for it and
kept their shape instead.

It's impossible for them to keep up that level of discipline in my opinion.
The team that did best against Germany were Serbia, who also played the
counter, but defended strongly and Germany didn't seem to have too many
ideas against a packed defence and missed a penalty through pressure. I
don't reckon it'll take much to knock the Germans out of their gameplan, if
Spain go a goal up I don't see them coming back into it. If del Bosque gets
it right and his side produce, I can see Germany getting a proper hammering,
folding under pressure. I'll stick my neck out and tip Spain to win by 2
clear goals.

I hope you are right, but I'm not so sure... The Germans are more limited in
ability than the Spanish by a country mile, but the advantage they have is
that they are German - which means that they are arrogantly and monotonously
robotic (read: confident and disciplined) and can find their way past vastly
superior opponents with seaming ease.

If the Spanish get a goal ahead, they can play keep-ball for the rest of the
game, and 'the Boche' won't get a look in. If the Spanish don't lead in the
first half (or indeed if Germany score first), they will come apart at the
seams as they strain forward then get mugged on the counter.

Yes Mental the Germans kept things simple and their discipline was
indeed the key factor for their success. They knew that Argentina had
weakness in defence and when Argentina came forward chasing the game
after the first goal they left themselves far too open and simple
patient passing by the Germans allowed them more chances on goal to
further their lead.

Anything can happen and one has to remember that Germany were defeated
by Serbia 1-0 although I did not see that game and do not know how they
performed. Spain have not set the World Cup alight but they are
getting the job done and in Villa they have a man who knows where the
back of the net is. He is always in the right place to capitalise on
goal and they have excellent players in Iniesta, Xavi not to mention
Alonso and Fabregas to create chances. Spain will be very hard to
beat.
