I was meaning to post something similar, but you said it better than I
probably could.

That's doubly stupid, considering they'll probably need Brazil's help
against Portugal. What were they possibly trying to achieve by fouling
hard, risking getting cards, or inciting Brazilian players to get
cards.

That said, Kaká stayed on the field longer than necessary. With the
game 3-0 and the Ivorians losing their composure, it was time to sub
him out.

Indeed.

Should he? He certainly didn't hit anyone's face, but didn't he hit
Keita's chest? It was evident Kaká would get a second yellow sooner or
later.

What on earth was the ref doing, joking with Luis Fabiano about
the incident afterwards???

That's my interpretation of things, too. Anyway, a break in
a meaningless group game will do him good, he looked
extremely worn out.

I think that was the ugly thing, but hopefully it would determine
that this incompetent referee is sent back home.
The goal obviously shouldn't stand, but I'm not sure the play
deserved a yellow card, since Luís Fabiano apparently tried to chest
the ball. His outstretched arm, though, meant he took a risk of
handling, so it was a foul. Poor form on denying it to the referee.
The first handball looked accidental to me, since the ball came from
behind him, and in a replay it looked like it would hit the arm of an
Ivorian defender if it had not hit the Brazilian's.

Tchau!

Look at the replay from the goal keeper's punt. When the ball comes down
Fabiano clearly pushes off the CIV defender that is trying to head the
ball, so not only does he then proceed to play the ball twice with his arm,
as the play should have ended right there.

>> Rivaldo was banned for a similar piece of acting against the Turks.

Well, Kaka did pushed/threw his elbow into the CIV player's chest, which he
didn't have to do. It's quite different from Rivaldo being hit by the
ball. If there was a possibility of review all that it would happen would
be the addition of another caution for the CIV player, but the one for Kaka
would definitely be upheld.

Last minutes of the game it was clear that the losing team was trying to
get some revenge and the referee wasn't able to stop it (I've been in that
situation lots of times, and it's not easy). When they got one of the
opposing players sent off they "won" what they wanted. Quite according to
script.

My guess is that at some point after the goal the ref was informed
through his headset from someone in the stands that the video showed it
was a clear handball, and that he was telling Fabiano "Hey, you got away
with one there." Which I think he shouldn't do in the middle of a
match. It just looks bad.
