Personnally, I love Italy, the Italians and their culture. I also somehow
admire their knowledge of football : how to win with an inferior team (or
/how to seem inferior/ ), intelligent players, etc. But I think they should
get rid of all the simulation and provocation, totally needless.

What's the problem with water? And please don't say it's only that it's
wet.

I think Italy is among the worst of those feigning improper contact to
draw fouls/cards/penalties. Not THE worst, but AMONG THE worst.

They have far too much talent to resort to game momentum-destroying
and -slowing activities like these. They should just get on with
playing the game without the melodrama and theater.

Teams like Portugal need to cheat like this, since they lack many more
dimensions on their squad compared to the Italians.

I like Italy's chances of winning this again in 2010, although they
are far from my favorite (meaning, "I love them") team.

And yes, I like Italian culture, Italian people, and the contributions
that they have made to civilization over the many centuries.
Including the playing of football.

Because they are by far the team who get most out of cheating and ref
errors. No other team comes close. Which is obvious for all except
those who, for whatever reasons, desperately look the other way.
2006 - win by obvious ref errors in the semi against Germany and in
the final vs. France.
1982 - Gentile taking care of Maradona and Zico (among others)

Previous wins are old history but there are stories about those too,
Mussolini and all that.

There are few things more cliched in such discussions as accusing those
who dislike something you like of being jealous.

Nice try.
