Oh I dunno, I expect if Sheikh something-or-other announces he's buying the club and has 500 million quid to invest in the squad, there will be plenty sniffing around. They just don't want their shortcomings exposed by not having money to throw around.... some of them might have to start managing a squad rather than keep throwing money at it until it works.

This is all true, but even a manager who doesn't require wads of cash will generally be reluctant to come. For example, they would need as a minimum that they can keep the proceeds of sales to re-invest in the team, which is an assurance not given to RH. We hope to keep Torres but if a silly-money bid came in, I reckon the club would sell. Say we got 70m... I reckon we might get 30m-40m to plow back into the team. Enough for a Torres replacement (not that we could convince one to come), but it would be an opportunity missed. Likewise if Masch goes for 25m, don't expect to see 25m-worth coming back in... We don't need a sugar-daddy to entice the best candidates in, we just need to be rid of these two clowns. If new owners arrived and took out a loan on the club to build a stadium (thus ensuring we need to keep paying *something* off), it would be the just about stable enough to re-assure the best candidates. But no decent manager is going to risk his career under the current regime. [Note: I think RH is a decent manager, if no what we hoped for. But he's come because it might be his last chance to get a top club - he's gambling the new owners will come to the rescue and leave him in post.]

European cup winners, FA Cup Winners, European Cup Final, best ever league finishes and the only title challenge we have put together in two decades. Let it go pope.

I'd certainly let it go if you stopped lying about it. The "only" title challenge we have put together in two decades indeed! How about 2nd place in 2002 - was that not a title challenge? -- + His Holiness Pope Pompous XVIII Recedite, plebes! Gero rem imperialem! |
