If there isn't one already, shouldn't FIFA create a world ranking of
referees so that only the top 20 or so get to officiate in the WC Finals?

It would spare us having to witness the embarrassing spectacle of the
Guatemalan ref, the Saudi ref, and Graham Poll.

If the refereeing in this WC doesn't convince Bladder and his
sycophants of the need to address simulation and the overall bad
standards of refereeing, then I am not sure anything will. The unjust
red card to the Swiss player vs Chile was just terrible refereeing.

1) Retrospective bans/punishment?
2) Video replay?
3) More referees?

Scrap what appears to be a quota system whereby each Confed appears to get a
given number of refereeing places.

They do that already, but they need to allocate those through the
confederations, just like they do teams, i.e. the teams currently on the
tournament are not the top 32 teams in the world either.

Elbows/touches two players in the face within seconds, arm flapping way
behind a natural position in the last incident. I can see arguments to go
caution or ejection and thus wouldn't call it terrible.
