Agreed: Gerrard should never have been allowed to slip two defenders. I thought Howard did a good job of trying to take out Gerrard's angles, but was unable to get in his face before he let it go. I like the US's chances in the 2nd half.

They'd not be all that far off the mark either. US can with a combination of good offense, which they have, and lucky defense because they need the luck. This US team would be top world class if it had good (not great, just good) defense as the offense is quite good and the keeper is tops. Still, very encouraged by how well the US team is keeping posession and making clean passes.
From: Starcade on 12 Jun 2010 15:26 HT 1-1 (Gerrard 4' -- Dempsey 40') Playing out about as I expected, except I wasn't really sure where the US was going to get their equalizer. Try under the South African Winter Tree, as it were. Oh, that keeper's not going to hear the end of it!! Just saw the US goal on ESPN's GameCast (the game is NOT on ESPN3 -- but probably will be on replay once the ABC telecast is complete). That has got to be one of the worst goals in World Cup history!!! I'm deadly serious. Mike

I'd go further. That was an own goal by the keeper. It was that bad. Mike |
