Game on! Suarez goal in the 80th!

Suarez goal in the 80th! Great shot, that one... fun to watch. On a side note, am I the only one who likes to watch soccer in the rain? Not an absolute downpour, mind you... but I think a nice steady rain can often add to a game, as long as the players aren't losing their footing very often.

Did you know that you can't hold your shinguard in your hand and whack at the ball? Or that the word "handball" does not appear in the laws? ---------------------- Handling the ball Handling the ball involves a deliberate act of a player making contact with the ball with his hand or arm. The referee must take the following into consideration: the movement of the hand towards the ball (not the ball towards the hand) the distance between the opponent and the ball (unexpected ball) the position of the hand does not necessarily mean that there is an infringement touching the ball with an object held in the hand (clothing, shinguard, etc.) counts as an infringement hitting the ball with a thrown object (boot, shinguard, etc.) counts as an infringement Disciplinary sanctions There are circumstances when a caution for unsporting behaviour is required when a player deliberately handles the ball, e.g. when a player: deliberately and blatantly handles the ball to prevent an opponent gaining possession attempts to score a goal by deliberately handling the ball A player is sent off, however, if he prevents a goal or an obvious goalscoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball. This punishment arises not from the act of the player deliberately handling the ball but from the unacceptable and unfair intervention that prevented a goal being scored.

I agree, and it is nice to play in the rain, too, until the field becomes so slippery that you can't powerfully clear a ball from your own end for fear you'll slip or either injure yourself. Uruguay will hang on, I think, and will only ever-so-slightly deserve this win. Pity for the US, providing they get by Ghana. I feared ROK less. Uruguay seems to be able to do just what it takes to win a match, and they are dark horses, IMHO, to get to the finals.

Look up the rules. |
