Yes, but for the fact that there was nothing accidental (or
unfortunate, for that matter) in that match.

You're just trying to twist the statistics to find a number that
comforts you. Here's a different twist on the numbers:

Italy's WC record when there are at least 5 juventini in the squad:
3 first places, 1 4th place, 1 QF, 2 first round exits

Italy's WC record when there are fewer than 5 juventini in the squad:
1 first place, 2 second places, 1 third place, 4 exits before the QFs.

Number of juventini on the 2010 squad: six

Unfortunate, like suckitude, is in the eye of the beholder.

Three in 1958, five in 1962, one in 1970 and one in... 1998!

For Vasco: five in 1950 and three in 1958.

Very interesting list, Werner!

My guesses are Argentina 1990 and... dunno, Sweden 1958?

Brazil in 2002 ? It seems to me they had players from all over in their
startng lineup.

Inter - Ronaldo
PSG - Ronaldinho
Barca - Rivaldo
Roma -Cafu
Real - Roberto Carlos
Betis - Denilson (on as sub)
Bayer Leverkusen - Lucio
Lyon ? - Edmilson
Milan ? - Roque Junior

The three Brazil based players (Marcos, Kleberson, Gilberto Silva) all
played for different teams too I think (wasn't Marco Palmeiras ? Not
sure about the others).

Argentina 1990 seems like a decent bet though.
