I realize that it's been a couple of years since my last certification
class, but I was certainly unaware of this. Could you point me to the
relevant wording in the Laws, Q&A, or ATR? A DOGSO is a red card,
without it being USB, but a mere reckless foul wouldn't be unless the
ref judged it to have been an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.
(Which, according to the ATR, he shouldn't if there's more than one
more defender between the foul and goal, if the attacker wasn't moving
toward the goal, etc.)

Sorry if my writing allowed you to conflate the two things, that was
not my intent.

BTW, we've probably refereed on some of the same tournaments and
fields. I'm in RWC and have done club and co-ed game up and down the
Peninsula.

USB is USB is a YC. An RC can only be given for the reasons listed in the
laws and USB is not one of them. USB in the PA is definitely not a RC, for
example goal-keeper time wasting on a restart, and I can think of a few
others.

I think Deeppe was thinking of certain potential USB type fouls, but
without further context, that statement is not true.

I'm now assured that you both are referees, out of a long explanation
you both jump on where I mispoke. ;-)

This sort of thing can make a lot of our meetings go awfully long
though.

Both Evan (an ex-co-worker) and I, are/were referees, yes.

The rest of your post was fine, but one does need to make sure these
misspoken statements don't propagate too far, or we end up with the
players and/or the parents on the sideline, quoting all kinds of things
they heard on TV or read on rss :-)

"Players can't play on the ground" is my favorite one in youth games. "But
I got the ball first" the one in adult games. "They have to ask for 10
yards first", when I brought the YC out.

More than 5 minutes added time :-)
