I have a room, I'm sitting in it watching this crazy-long tennis match.

You can't come in!

Well let's not forget they caught some breaks as well. Green's howler,
terrible goalkeeping (He ducked !) on Donovan's first vs. Slovenia.
Plus Dempsey not getting sent off in the first minute of the Slovenia
match for an elbow to the head that looked as bad as the one Gourcuff
did get sent off for.
It is a bit too easy to focus only on the refereeing decisions they
didn't get in their favour. On balance, they deserve to go through, though.

How different was that from the penalty and red card awarded against
Kewell this time? It is the inconsistency that bothers me. I would
consider neither a penalty, as they don't seem to conform to FIFA's
definition of a deliberate handball.

Okay, One More Time.

Two very different things. Same sort of difference between a late
tackle and a studs up one from behind and a dangerous one. They are
all "tackles" with different results, from a simple FK, to a YC to a
straight RC. Everyone understands this I hope.

First off, the PK+RC was for DOGSO, not "handling". Let's get that
straight up front. And DOGSO can happen from things other than a
handball.

A "Hand ball" that results in a YC is not for "handling" but for USB
"Unsporting Behavior" okay? The YC against DeMerit was for USB, not
"handling".

USB in the PA is a RC, simple as that. I thought everyone knew this.

A simple handball is a FK (FreeKick).

Now let's take this play in particular and dissect it shall we?

Q. Where was the player?
A. On the goal line

Q. What was he doing there?
A. Trying to defend the goal.

So far, no problem, players do this regularly. In fact we've seen MANY
players do so with their hands behind their backs. Why might that be?

Q. How was the defender holding his arms?
A. Very stiffly (see fists and the balls rebound) away from his body.

Q. Why was this player doing that?
A. To make the area he was defending larger.

Q. Purposely?
A. Without a doubt.

VERDICT: DOGSO, RC+PK

Regards,

Dale
