Planned welfare reforms will deliver a 480 million blow to the Scottish
economy, according to a report out yesterday.

The figure combines loss in benefits to those on Incapacity Benefit, and
reductions in entitlement for those on Disability Living Allowance
(DLA), which were announced in the emergency budget.

76% of those who before would have claimed incapacity benefit were being
rejected for its replacement, the Employment and Support Allowance or
were abandoning claims before completing a strict new medical test.

76% ? excellent news, about time something was done about the fake
incapacity and DLA claims. There should be a massive saving when it is
rolled out to England.

I don't know how to solve this one Lawrence, though I agree it needs
solving. Certainly the days of the 7000 a week housing benefit for
London mansions for somalian illegal immigrants is over. The goverment
is going to reduce the max benefit to 400 a week. However, what do you
do with the genuine unemployed guy living in Liverpool or Manchester who
recieves this 200 odd a week benefit?

You cannot make them homeless.

Maybe they won't end up homeless. As it's probaby landlords who were
making most of money out of this scheme they'll just have to accept
smaller rents - after all, if they decide to toss your genuine guy out
on the street the place might well stand empty for some time if the
benefits aren't there.

That's because DLA doesn't cover heroin addiction or alcoholism.

Despite the propaganda published by the Daily Heil and other similar
right wing rags such as the Daily Excess and swallowed hook, line, and
sinker by rabid right wingers there is not a mass tidal wave of fraud
going on.

It is already well known that current assessment procedures are
woefully inadequate when it comes to assessing people ,especially those
with mental health problems.

It is typical of the increasingly uncivilised times we live in that is
easier to scapegoat the disadvantaged, in all shapes and sizes, rather
than take serious measures to rein in the reckless, irresponsible, greed
fuelled behaviours of the bankers and financiers that triggered a global
financial meltdown.

Far more money is lost to the economy due to tax evasion by the powerful
and rich than is lost due to benefit fraud.Yet the twisted morality of
rabid right wingers is to turn a blind eye to this whilst making
hysterically exaggerated claims of benefit fraud and ludicrously
insisting that there are legions of benefit claimants, including those
with mental and physical health problems, living in the lap of luxury.

For any person who is remotely intelligent and is aware of the level of
benefits afforded to people it is glaringly obvious that there are no
such legions of benefit claimants living opulent lifestyles.
