In other words, the team you play for qualifies you for the honor, and
the team you play for must play in the CL and what you do as a player
has no bearing on the situation.

So, from my point of view, the good news here is that Sacha Kljestan has
a better chance of becoming a superstar than Diego Forlan has.

I think it's an unspoken rule that to be even considered a superstar
you have to be playing for one of Europe's big 10 clubs, at the
minimum.

Ballon d'or: Sneidjer has to win or Schweinsteiger if Germany win the
WC and he continues to play the way he has. Milito should be close but
probably will not be because he barely played in this WC.

As for this WC I would say the same with maybe Villa, Mueller or Lahm
getting votes. Mueller has to win the young player award. Now If
Uruguay win today and Forlan scores then he has to be a top candidate,

So, Diego Forlan, David Villa, Mesut Ozil, Luis Fabiano et al cannot be
considered superstars, but Wes Brown can?

Pardon my dumbness, but I think this concept might need some more
'splainen. :-)

Relevant: "scorers and winners" ranking

In the latest ranking
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.sport.soccer/msg/9b8b749f60aac1a8
Villa is 12th, Forlan is 26th, Luis Fabiano and Oezil (...and Wes
Brown) are out of the top 30.
