Yes, I had doubts the first time I saw it, but one of the replays has
shown he was behind the ball.

No offside, he was behind the ball. He even was very clever, almost stopping
to avoid getting in an offside position.

Correct, Where he is with relation to Podolski doesn't matter, it's the
ball that counts, and if one is behind the ball one can never be offside.
Klose was behind the ball in that play.
