I think you'll find that Wenger has won a few things. Or is it only certain
managers whose trophies are acknowledged if they were won more than a season
ago?

And he won those "few things" based upon a rock solid defence that was
already in place when he joined the club and quite a few money
signings.

Wenger has won nowt for years.
His flawed obsession with bringing young players through and spending
no money, resulting in empty trophy cabinets for, is it 5 seasons now,
would have seen him sacked in, lets say, certain other clubs, as the
"fans" would have had their say ;-)

Arsenal fans are a strange bunch, they worship Wenger for some reason
and it's not results

I would guess that Liverpool's fans and directors would have been equally
as patient if their team had played in a similar way to Arsenal who's style
always promises that there is so much better to come. An empty promise
maybe, under the clubs present policy of spending little. Liverpool's
style under Rafa just became more and more frantic despite the cash the
club has spent over his 6 years.

Playing attractive and entertaining attacking football has long been a way
of keeping fans happy. West Ham have survived on that policy for decades.
Wenger has his idiosyncrasies , but I have never doubted that he endorses
the club's spending policy, and why shouldn't he? It makes a lot of sense
to get that big building debt out of the way before anything else. Doing it,
whilst keeping the fans happy and retaining the sides participation in
all the major competitions to a late stage, is a big success. Not exactly
what the fans would call a success maybe, but from the boards point of
view, better than they could have expected.

So how do Arsenal manage it? Seems to me that the style keeps them
happy, but a bigger factor might be the down- to- earth attitude of their
fans. They don't seem to suffer from the concept that, because of their
past successes, which go back to the 1930's, they have some sort of
divine right to be top dogs year after year. Cannot say the same for
most L'pool fans, who seem feel that being amongst the best sides is
a right, and failing to get there some sort of injustice" Back where we
belong" is a common phrase. But no club "belongs" and none have
a right simply because they once had a sustained run of success in the
past. Success is only success if it was earned yesterday and is
re-earned tomorrow.
