Staying at Arsenal. No sulking. No disappointment.
He has a contract with Arsenal so "keeping me is their
prerogative" I owe the club a lot, etc, etc.

That's the way to do it. Classy!

No sulking ?

Sorry Les, you seem to have left out a bit there, then.

The bit where he says "I really want to play for Arsenal this year.
In fact I've only ever wanted to play for Arsenal. I've
never ever wanted to play for any other club. I've also got
more Arsenal DVD's than Torres has Liverpool DVD's, so you
can stick that in your hat as well ! "

Whereas all he's actually said is that Arsenal have him under contract,
which is a fact - and that Arsenal offered him the chance of first team
football early on when Barca didn't - which is another fact.

So that's " all he actually said " ? But it isn't even WHAT he actually
said.

" I am a professional footballer and understand that it is the clubs
prerogative not to sell me. I owe a lot to the club, manager and fans
and will respect their decision and will now concentrate on the new
season ahead with Arsenal. I can assure the fans that now all
negotiations have ended, I will be 100 percent focused on playing for
Arsenal. I would like to apologise to the Arsenal fans for not speaking
about my future sooner, but I have not known what I was going to do
until this moment".

" I cannot deny that joining a club like Barcelona was an attractive move
for me, This was the club where I learned to play my football. It is
the home town where all my friends and family are. It is the club
where I have always dreamed of playing. I have had conversations with
Arsen Wenger, both in person and over the phone, in the past few
months and, although the content of those conversations will remain
private, the conclusion is that Barcelona have had two formal offers
rejected by Arsenal"

We all know that players can force the issue if they want to. It happens
every few weeks. Contracts usually mean little. This player didn't do
that although obviously disappointed. If that isn't refreshing in today's
football world, I don't know what is.

Like you said earlier Les, Fabregas showed a lot of class regarding the
above.
