Awful start for coach Renato Portaluppi.

[played in São Paulo; Zé Eduardo 69' - Rudnei 17',

It was the first match in an international competition for
Avaí. What a debut! Neymar and Ganso, who had played
in New Jersey two nights before, came in for the second
half, but despite Neymar's great play for Santos' goal, it
wasn't enough. To add insult to injury, Neymar and
goalkeeper Rafael left the pitch injured.
Second leg on Aug 18.

I know he is a legend there, but it still looks strange. Renato "Gaucho"
Portaluppi, the man who, two years ago, erm qualified us to Serie B after
almost sending Fluminense the same way in the same season, appointed to save
Gremio from the same fate. It's a bit like one throwing a 1-ton rock to a
man who's drowning.

Well... you could say they added injury to insult instead :-) Apparently
Rafael's injury isn't as ugly as it looked. Good thing.
