From: Jesus Petry on 24 Feb 2010 07:24 ***************************************** Group phase (1st placed + top six 2nd placed qualify): Group 7 Deportivo Italia (Caracas-VEN) 0-1 Vélez Sarsfield (BA-ARG) [HR López 54'] After the defense couldn't deal with a corner kick, López lobbed the rebound over a fallen teammate and into the goal. Vélez keep leading the group, now with six points from two games, Italia are stuck on zero. Group 5 Internacional (Porto Alegre-BRA) 2-1 Emelec (Guayaquil-ECU) [Nei 53', Alecsandro 87' - Quiroz 49'] After an uneventful first half, Emelec took profit of a collective defensive error: Rojas found Quiroz completely free on the left and he tapped under the onrushing Abbondanzieri to put the visitors ahead. It didn't take long, though, for Inter to react. Right winger Nei found some space and sent a rocket into the top corner. With heavy rain starting a few minutes later, Inter put more pressure, with forward Taison coming on for the injured Nei. Emelec had some dangerous counters, but Inter could deal well with it, especially through an inspired performance by defender Danilo Silva, who blocked Ayoví's shot after Abbondanzieri was forced to rush out of the goal. Two other substitutes combined for the winner: Andrezinho found Walter with a through pass and the youngster, a Milivella pick in Fantasy Scout, brilliantly rolled to his side instead of shooting straight at Elizaga. Alessandro tapped in to seal Inter's first season debut win in Libertadores history. Cerro (URU) and Inter lead the group with three points after the first round.
