From: Jesus Petry on 7 Jun 2010 14:35 ***************************************** Now there's a long World Cup break. Sat, Jun 5: Avaí 0-3 Fluminense [Leandro Euzébio 44', Fred 50', Alan 57'] Flu have found their way with Muricy. Point for Mark. Flamengo 1-2 Goiás [Toró 51' - Hugo 86' (FK), Otacílio Neto 88'] A surprise late comeback gives Goiás the third straight win. No points. Vitória 1-0 Atlético-PR [Schwenck 81'] Vitória leave the bottom four. Point for me. Sun, Jun 6: São Paulo 3-1 Grêmio [Dagoberto 18', 67', 70' - Hugo 8'] I'm starting to like Dagoberto. :-) Double for me. Santos 4-0 Vasco da Gama [André 35' (PK), 63', Maranhão 52', Madson 74'] Santos are back to their normal form of this year. Points for both. Botafogo 2-2 Corinthians [Renato Cajá 48', Lúcio Flávio 73' - Bruno César 31', Paulo André 90+3'] Corinthians keep the lead with a late goal. Points for both. Atlético-MG 0-1 Ceará [Washington 56'] A slightly offside goal, but Ceará really deserve to be joint leaders having allowed only one goal in seven games. Point for Mark. Internacional 1-1 Palmeiras [Giuliano 67' - Lincoln 15'] Reserve goalkeeper Deola had a good game and helped Palmeiras getting an away point. No points. Guarani 1-0 Grêmio Prudente [Roger 90+5' (PK)] A great start for Guarani too. Single for me, double for Mark. As for Mark's question, this is Guarani, the Paraguayan champions are called Guaraní. Note: the above will make no sense if your newsreader doesn't support diacritics. Atlético-GO 2-1 Cruzeiro [Rodrigo Tiuí 30', Pedro Paulo 85' - Wellington Paulista 43'] First top flight win for the Dragon after decades. No points. Ugly, a train wreck really. Starting with Prass's freakish error in the first goal, but if only we could stop there. Our keeper has became a fan favorite with his solid displays in last year's Campeonato Brasileiro, and is by far better than anyone we had since Fábio (note, that's not to say he is as good as either Fábio or his predecessors all the way back to Acácio were...). But he is becoming increasingly error-prone. Hopefully, being made look like a fool in this fashion will wake him up again... It is unfair to single him out, though, since he usually is a good keeper overall. But I don't want to start a litany here on how our squad is poor. Some players have been released (and I thought of honoring one of them with the handle "Dodo is Gone!", not seriously though...), others are said to be in negotiations, but until after the World Cup we're just in gossip-land, really. And Santos was without Neymar and Robinho. Futebol sucks. Now on for what should be a loong month in 19th place. At least we'll have the WC in it. > 17 Atlético-PR 7 7 2 -5 10-15 > 18 Atlético-MG 6 7 2 -6 10-16 > 19 Vasco da Gama 5 7 1 -7 5-12 > 20 Atlético-GO 4 7 1 -5 5-10 Funny to see all Atléticos in the, erm, Serie B qualifying zone. -- Lléo
