Bad comparison, as Van Basten and Maldini played in different roles. As for midfielders, I think Zidane and Baggio were close enough to be considered equal to Maradona. I also think one good WC and a couple of great club seasons are not enough to make Maradona *the* all time great. One of them, sure. I liked Zidane. He was my favorite player when I watched football. I also liked Ronaldo and Ronaldino from a previous WC. Was it Barcelona ? Ole Ole Ole ? Are they still playing ?

One of them, sure. Infact he's not rated the best just because of that WC. It's his entire career, from when he started to Napoli.

He left Barca in 1984, and Napoli in 1992. And quite frankly, after '88 his cocaine use and high-rolling lifestyle were already starting to take its toll. So, what I said: one World Cup and a couple of great club seasons. Mart -- "We will need a longer wall when the revolution comes." --- AJS, quoting an uncertain source.

I followed most of the matches he played with Napoli and what he did was unmatched by any player ever. > And quite frankly, after '88 his cocaine use and high-rolling lifestyle > were already starting to take its toll. Yeah he dcelined after that, but he was at his peak for long enough. > So, what I said: one World Cup and a couple of great club seasons. He was influential in more than a couple, if you go before Barca. |
