Have they ever met in a WC? : > : >I've seen '82 and '94... is that it? : Strange. I cannot recall those. They mustn't have been very memorable? I had the misfortune to watch both matches. 82 was epecially dire but it got the job done for the Germans. 94 was a 1-1 effort, I remember posting during the match about how Spain had the upper hand but weren't finishing, and Gustaaf van Moorsel emailing me saying oh no that means Germany will win :-) I think the first one was 1-0 Germany and the second was 1-1 My prediction is that Germany will get at most one goal against Spain. Whether that will get them through is up for grabs. I hope they have the guts to start Toni Kroos in Mueller's place. -- ciao, Bruce drift wave turbulence: http://www.rzg.mpg.de/~bds/

I did indeed understimate the anguish of Spanish fans over this. They were more confident during the Euro, but there is no substitute for the World Cup. The only disappointment for me was the same lacksadaisical attitude of Roque, who except for a nice six-month spell (during which he got an important 1-0 goal in Leverkisen) was more or less the same as I remember him in Bayern. He's a much better player than that... if he only had the mental edge to go with all that talent. Valdez is quite inferior talent wise, but tougher. What happened to Barrios? Did he even start? -- ciao, Bruce drift wave turbulence: http://www.rzg.mpg.de/~bds/

Sven says it's Trochowski. Not sure whether I would rate that, unless Loew wants to be a bit more defensive (which if so would IMHO be a mistake). -- ciao, Bruce drift wave turbulence: http://www.rzg.mpg.de/~bds/

It's easier to look good with the momentum behind you. Marin had to come into a difficult situation against Serbia. |
