Very nice stuff Anders, especially the one with Bellini (also Brasil's
captain in 1958) entering the field with the rest of the team. Thanks
for posting these.

Do you know whether there was an unprecedented crime wave and/or rioting in
Boden at some point in 1956? Just curious, I ask for no particular reason.

These trips have become very rare, or inexistant. I believe there are two
main reasons for that:

1. Brazilian football season calendar is packed, with the state leagues on
top of the national league. Plus, our season goes from late January from
early December, meaning our teams are in the almost at mid-season when the
European clubs are available for this kind of friendly.

2. Our clubs don't have the markee players they used to have, and made them
attractive for invitation to road trip friendlies and pre-season
tournaments. There's obviously domestic talent in our league, but most of it
is from players who are relatively unknown internationally, or players who
came back from Europe.

Up until the late 80s, it was commonplace for Vasco to play at least one
pre-season tournament in Europe every year (I speak of Vasco because they
were the ones I followed; this is probably true of other teams too).

Even my local Vitria FC, which plays in a very low profile state league (we
are currently 4th tier level in Brazil), used to have regular invitations to
play abroad until the 80s. We even won the 1979 President's Cup in South
Korea (it had a different name back then).

That could be awesome! I suppose you'll forward the idea to Boden's board so
they can make the invitation? =)
