You may not have. There was definitely some play acting there (the way he rolled over, sat up, saw the ref coming, then was suddenly in agony again), but he may actually have been hit by an elbow. It was very inconclusive. >> Portugal did quite well and had some decent chances, but Spain are a bit >> better. Coentrao possibly the best left back in the tournament so far. > > I agree. As far as I know he did not come through the amazing youth set up (Tm) at Sporting. Speaking of which, what happened to Quaresma, Moutinho, Nani, and all these other future Portugal stars we used to hear about. I can only assume they are all injured.

Moutinho just didn't get the call-up. Fabio Paim, incidentally, is on loan to a second division team.

On the game: excellent. Made my day, the first time I felt this way since this Cup began. Portugal were good, they played pretty well but they simply were no match. Spain are beginning to look again like in 2008. Right at the right time, I'd say. With a bit of luck this time we'll get our dream final. Though I don't think Holland are beaten in advance. As an aside, it's a pity Holland has to meet Brazil this early. Like this the semis will probably be Spain, Brazil, Arg (or Germany) and Uruguay. IMO Holland definitely deserved a place in there, probably instead of Uruguay. But that's life, and in the end it doesn't matter much who is in the semi, but who wins it. Another aside, I got 7 out of 8 this time. Not bad again. The only miss, Germany instead of England, and only because of that damn ref. :-) |
