Paraguay has been more relevant in football than Japan, and for a longer time. So it makes some sense the Paraguayans would be the first ones to reach the World Cup's last 8 for the first time. I know this is not how things work, but still. Usually, I don't care much about Paraguay and their "negative football", but this current team seemed on the way to change this reputation by playing a more offensive brand of football during the WCQ, and even showing competence on attack. They didn't arrive to the WC at full strength up front, and it showed. Perhaps they also reverted to a more conservative style when they reached the big stage. Still, right now they are not that "exclusively" defensive-minded side they used to be, so here's hoping the trend continues. They should be toast against either Portugal or Spain, of course. Kudos to this Japanese team that finally showed they could do well away from home. I very liked their attitude, in the sense that they believed from day 1 they could go further, and played accordingly. They're young, and should be back. Abrao, Luiz Mello
