I agree. Further, I don't think Bastos is so much of a defensive
liability (on the contrary, I think he's done quite well) to warrant
dropping the only naturally left-footed player in the team and play
Maicon out of position.

As others have already mentioned, Dungo wouldn't rock the boat this much. What he might
tell Bastos to do is to join the attack at speed when possession is gained, knowing that
Robben doesn't track back much. That was probably why he pushed Bastos forward towards the
end of the Chile game by introducing Gilberto at left-back.

Now it looks like Elano won't play against Holland, so we'll probably see Gilberto Silva
at no.5, Josue at no.8 (and with an eye to cover for Bastos), and Dani Alves at no.7.

Yup, especially when Maicon will be up against GvB, and with the help of Dani Alves. My
gut feeling is that the more Robben sees the ball, the more volatile the game will turn
out to be: Robben is a great threat but is also prone to lose possession. He'll be wise to
try to shoot as soon as a half chance comes his way, for the safest way to lose possession
is to shoot off-target, rather than passing it to Juan or Lucio and see the ball at the
other end of the pitch in 5 seconds.

And every Holland fan will have to pray for Robben tracking back when Brazil gains
possession on the left. The battle between Bastos + Robinho vs. Robben + Wiel might decide
the game.

Ramires and Dani Alves flanking Josue in midfield is reportedly Dunga's "Plan B". Trouble
is: Elano will probably not recover to play Holland, while Ramires is suspended. Dunga may
have, at some point (e.g. towards the end of the game with Chile), entertained the idea
of starting Gilberto at left-back, and push Bastos into midfield to play the Ramires role.
But surely he won't start the game in this largely untried formation.
