Bobadilla, Raúl (Argentina, Gladbach)
Bukharov, Alexandr (Russia, Rubin)
Carlitos (Portugal, Basel)
César Caneda (Spain / Pays Basque, Guijuelo)
Cork, Jack (England, Coventry)
Cupi, Andrea (Italy, Empoli)
Delap, Rory (Ireland, Stoke)
Djuric, Milan (Italy / Bosnia & Herz., Cesena)
Farnerud, Pontus (Sweden, Stabæk)

Harding, Dan (England, Southampton)
Ignashevich, Sergey (Russia, CSKA Moscow)

Lewis, Eddie (U.S.A., Los Angeles)
Manchev, Vladimir (Bulgaria, CSKA (Sofia))

Tagoe, Prince (Ghana, Hoffenheim)
Tekke, Fatih (Turkey, Zenit)
Velasco, Juan (Spain, Panthrakikos)

Mark V. goes first, picking one player. Then alternate picking two
players each, until 20 players have been picked.

Then you have to put the players you have picked in either a 4-4-2 or
a 4-2-3-1 formation:

4-4-2
RD (like Glen Johnson or like Maicon)
CD (like Vidic or like Samuel)
CD (like Vidic or like Samuel)
LD (like Ashley Cole or like Purrel Fränkel)
RM (like Varela or like Aaron Lennon)
CM (like Xavi or like Essien)
CM (like Xavi or like Essien)
LM (like Culio or like Malouda)
FS (fast striker, like Villa)
TS (target striker, like Drogba)
Beware: a central attacking midfielder (like Kaká) is not expected in
such a formation. If you pick a CAM, he could be best settled as RM,
CM, LM or FS: it depends on his properties.

4-2-3-1
RD (like Glen Johnson or like Maicon)
CD (like Vidic or like Samuel)
CD (like Vidic or like Samuel)
LD (like Ashley Cole or like Purrel Fränkel)
CM (like Xavi or like Essien)
CM (like Xavi or like Essien)
RM (like Varela or like Aaron Lennon)
CAM (like Kakà)
LM (like Culio or like Malouda)
S (like Villa or like Drogba)

To make your choice, consider that the team's score is given by the
*geometric mean* of *your players' ratings in those position*:
- Geometric mean = nth root of the resulting product. I.e. higher
values beat lower values (4*2 beats 3*2), but also more balanced
values beat less balanced values (3*3 beats 4*2).
- Your players' rating in those position: e.g. Messi played as RM is
88 out of 100, but played as CD is 37 (like Giuseppe Abbrescia... and
I too ignore who the he is).
I.e. you have to pick good players, put them in the right positions
and avoid weak links (doesn't it sound reasonable?).

I'll use Football Manager (beginning of current season) ratings.
Please don't check them (but you could lose even if you'll cheat!).

If you don't play for more than 30 days you are out of the game.

I'll make my pick this evening when I'm off work. One thing, though.
Janicio was a player of my opponent in a previous match. Should he
remain as one of our choices, or not? (I know how he'll do in at least
one position)

Sorry if I didn't reply earlier... I was sleeping. :) But since you
had your first pick, let's leave everything as it is: Janicio is in.

If I was a good gamemaster, I would delete from the pool all the
players that are randomly selected. But it takes a bit too much time,
so I don't do it, relying on you spotting already present players (and
choosing whether report them).

That's okay, though I don't think I'd have chosen him first! In a way
it's good he stays. I fear that you'd randomly pick another striker!
By the way, I see that Milan Djuric is in your pool and ours. As he is
unlikely to get played in his natural position in our game, it will be
interesting to see how he does in what are likely to be different
positions in the two games.
