No, not at all. The 2006 squad had at least a couple of bona fide stars (Totti, Del Piero) still close to their peaks, several regular starters for teams that were perennial CL QF material (Pirlo, Gattuso, Nesta, Zambrotta, Cannavaro, Camoranesi, hey, even Materazzi), all of them also close to their peaks, and even one of the most prolific scorers in all of Europe (Toni). Plus Buffon. This year there are no stars, the 2006 veterans are all way past their prime, and our best players ply their trade for Udinese, Sampdoria, and, alas, the joke that is Juevntus. All we have left is Buffon. D D

Plus Buffon. I also think this team has '86 written all over it, but Cannavarvo and Nesta were thought of as past-it then too, Toni was unproven. Grosso, De Rossi, and Materazzi all stepped up at crucial time. De Rossi is still there, and Pazzini to provide the unexpected spark.

Would it really make much of difference who it is here that gets cut from amongst those you think and Palombo, Pepe and Gattuso? > > FW: Borriello, Di Natale, Gilardino, Iaquinta, Pazzini, > > Quagliarella, Rossi. > > Di Natale, Gilardino, Iaquinta in for sure. Thanks to Lippi. He should have started bringing in younger players from the Confed cup.

He might need Pepe on the flank, and Candreva (or Cossu) is the only tre-quartista after Pirlo. > FW: Borriello, Di Natale, Gilardino, Iaquinta, Pazzini, > Quagliarella, Rossi. > Di Natale, Gilardino, Iaquinta in for sure. Borriello has been a top gol scorer, it's unlikey he'll leave him out.
