I am not an anti-traditionalist. Whatever reason it may have had, it
no longer makes any sense. Eliminate the offsides rule. It totally
fucks up the game. I have played soccer for many years. I understand
the rules. I'm no beginner.

Eliminate offsides rule NOW!!!!!!

It would ruin the game and totally change how it's played. One thing
they could do is eliminate off sides inside of the penalty area. In
other words once you are in the penalty area with the ball you can
then pass it to anyone. Passes from outside the penalty area would
still be treated the same even if they land in the area. If they made
this change it would eliminate a lot of the difficult calls and
wouldn't change the game that much. It's very difficult to make calls
inside the area because of all the players who can group together
there. This would eliminate those mistakes like the Tevez goal against
Mexico. Once a team has the ball inside the penalty area the defense
would just have to mark everyone. I played in a league that used this
and it worked out well. No one complained since they knew the rules
going in and it didn't change anything.

I would say if it changes the game it would be for the good. There is
no offsides in lacrosse and the game is just fine. Same in basketball.
In basketball there is the 3-second rule to keep offensive players
from hanging beneath the basket.

It's time to say goodbye to this stupid, antiquated, impossible-to-
enforce rule. I'm sick of it.

If you want to prevent players from standing in front of the goal
there are better ways to do that. In any event it would be stupid to
do so, as it would mean weakening your defense.

Trust me it's been tried and the game looked horrible. FIFA used a
line in one tournament instead of offsides and the game just didn't
look good. Players just look to pass forwards all the time and the
defense just bunches up. Off sides technology is the way to go.
Computers didn't exist when they invented the game but now they can be
useful. We are in the year 2010 and it's crazy not to want to use what
is available and not even that expensive to use.

No, eliminate it altogether. It's time. Watch a lacrosse game. There
is in hockey and lacrosse a circle within which a player may not
shoot. That's all you need. The goalie box would do.....

No shots from within goalie box. That's all you need!
