I think you are being overly optimisitc. For example, Buffon is 32 and he
started to decline one year ago? frey being not the most exemplary physical
specimen shouldn't be expected to last forever.

You are being too harsh. Without ever being an exceptional keeper Almunia
did a decent job for a while.

Which in turn is about

Sylvestre was utterly cheap and fitted very well in the low expense scheme.

Most of which have never actually seen him play!!! And most of whom are
impressed by his physical appearance alone which in turn makes him a great
keeper.

You are 100% right in it possibly taking a few years before he is ready, but
for me I would throw him straight in knowing we lose absolutely nothing if
we do!!!

Keepers linked with Arsenal in the past few months.

Frey (France) Possibly on the move 5/10
Schwarzer (Australia) Our seemingly number one target as a player then coach
9/10 (Big game flop but decent and better than what we have)
Reina (Spain) Re-signed since the rumour surfaced 0/10
Lloris (France) Price will turn us off 0/10
Mandanda (France) Asking Price will turn us off 0/10
Jaaskelainen (Finland) A yearly addition to this list, wont happen, he cant
catch 0/10
Sorensen (Denmark) A reliable keeper prone to big game errors 3/10-
Hart (England) A great addition if we can buy him 3/10
Eduardo (Portugal) Signed with Genoa since rumour 0/10
Romero (Argenrina) Decent and no better 0/10
Robinson (England) 2nd worst rumour of the summer 0/10
Boruc (Poland) Signed with Fiorentina 0/10
Handanovic (Slovenia) Good prospect, tall commanding yet unproven 2/10
Green (England) Good keeper, forever banished to footballing hell 0/10

Whoever made that clip should be commended on supporting a dud!!!

Much worse is to come, unfortunately. As you mention below Arsenal did very
well so far to diminish its debt although I am not sure whether they assumed
the financing for these sold condos.

Man, i hope they don't sell all of the above considering all the injuries
htey suffered in recent years.

May be so, Buffon hasn't declined in ability, just a case of injuries
starting to rule!!! But I do struggle to find a lot of keepers who once past
30 hit a purple patch. Obvious exceptions are keepers like Freidel, Kahn,
Van der Sar, and a few others, but they are extremely rare!!! You do realise
I will settle for anything better than an open goal at the moment!!! :-)

Maybe I am, but the moment we are unable to defend a situation for whatever
reason, it sends chills down my spine knowing he is the last line of
defence, and cant be relied upon at all!!!

He served well, without being exceptional as you mention!!!

You do know he was in the second bracket of earners, which is 50 000 plus!!!
Which more than makes his 750 000 transfer fee seem really expensive!!!

I look at it this way, he provided good cover as 4th or 5th backup, his very
poor performances led to consecutive UCL latter stage KO's, two of his three
goals were crucuial in the matches, But to think of all the players who
would have signed a two year deal for 50 000 a week is frightening compared
to what we wasted it on!!

Any player who we should be looking at, more so position that require a look
into?

Me too. the injury situation in the past few seasons has been nothing short
of shocking, I wish no ill health to anyone, but any EPL team that claims
they have had no luck with injuries obviously hasn't heard of our Arsenal!!!

I dont know why, (touching wood) I think/hope we might get a break this
season, but already we have Bendtner and Vela injured while obviously
Ramsey is on our long term list, while Eduardo and Rosicky are still far
from being close to top shape!!!

Nasri looks like he is in line for a big season!!!

Just saw Fabregas celebrating in a Barcelona jersey, not good!!! :-o
