I guess my issue with this list is that goals for Leixoes or Stade
Rennes would count, but goals for Galatasaray or Rangers would not. I
am not thinking of anybody specifically (beyond Jardel, who would not
crack your top 10 or 11 anyway), yet still.....

You're totally right. Still, I only see the following options:
a. Cut at some point, and tag some leagues as "top leagues". You could
exclude Portugal and France, or include Turkey and Scotland, etc.
b. Assign a different weight to goals scored in different leagues.
It's possible to do it, see "the bearable heaviness of goals".
c. Forget about computing such a ranking.
Do you see any other option? What's the best one according to you?

Since I wanted to compute this ranking, I dropped option c. :) I
didn't go for different weights (b) because I wanted to keep things
simple and intuitive (1 goal = 1 goal!). So I had to pick some leagues
(a): I went for the ones where the greatest stars of the past 50 years
shone.

I'd say that you stick with what you've been doing (thanks for doing
this, by the way!), but gerrymander obvious worthy exceptions (you be
the judge) like, say, Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Anderlecht, Celtic,
Rangers, Club América etc. in when it seems appropriate to do so. Or
not! :-)

i.e. What to do about Hugo Sanchez? :-)

Thanks a lot for the tip!

I don't know whether I'll keep working at this stat, though, because,
even if it takes very little time to add a player to the database,
tracking all the players that could reach an high score could require
more than a couple of minutes, i.e. too much for me. (I hope to find a
solution, though!)
