Exactly. My neighbour is one of these eco warriors, critical of my
petrol lawnmower while use uses his rechargable battery powered
mower. I guess the electricity used to recharge the batteries comes
from that same fairy dust. Those silly, expensive lightbulbs, too.
Do we honestly think they make the slightest difference?

Maybe not, but electric cars are very energy efficient. When you work out
the whole energy cost of getting oil out of the ground, refining it and
getting it into your car and then sticking it through an internal combustion
engine that is only about 18-25% efficient then the electric cars do very
well. They are also built on a lighter chassis because there is a lighter
engine, no need for a gearbox, clutch etc, and they can be powered by
electricity from renewable sources.
