From: Bob on 13 Jul 2010 03:01 That's the status of a newsgroup that can't celebrate a WC win by the most tactically offensive national squad of the last eon. Instead, we hear about how the Spanish squad is "defensive", "a bunch of divers" LOL

They won it trying to take the initiative and win in every match, had balance in attack and defence and did it with a minimum of foul tactics. They are fully deserved world champions. As to the criticisms, on both counts they are in the lowest ranks of worst of offenders at the tournament.

Agree that it was a deserved win of an offensive team with a reasonably clean game, cleaner than its opponents anyway which is about the most you can reasonably demand to a team. Disagree about the "dysfunctional group" part, you're generalizing. It's just a bunch of sore losers who can't swallow it that this year's champ is light-years above the last one, so they try to put forward the idea that, you know, they're all the same, nobody is better, or even Spain is much worse than Italy ever was, which is as lame as it can get. It's really too bad that they missed so much, especially in the semi and the final, they should have won them by much clearer margins. Par of which happened because of the bad form / incomplete fitness of Torres. It lends some support to the "defensive" theory.
