Well, you may be just a bit more emotionally involved really ;)

The Italian NT has never played better than the current German NT, in my
lifetime. The current German NT is the highest form of Italian
counterattacking football I have ever seen at international level.

You could make a case for the Italian one at the 1978WC group phase, and the
one at the 1982WC at the second group phase, to have been, probably, as good
to look at, but I'd not put my hand on the fire about that.

At the moment the only other team at WC level I'd compare the current German
NT for enterteinment level are the Dutch in the 1974WC, and before my time
I'd guess only the Hungarian NT at the 1954WC, the Italian NT at the 1938WC
and the Austrian NT at the 1934WC could have realistically fit the same sort
of bill.

Dear Alessandro,

congratulations for your great post. You prove any knowledge about
football and football history.

I am playing and observing football since 30 decades and I concurr
with you opinion, that this German team has the most lethal
counterattacking ever witnesses in my life.

Not long ago I watched the match Brazil-Italy 2-3 at WC 1982 and a lot
of things of that Italy team resembles this German team with one big
difference: Brazil scored 2 goals and had chances to many more goals
while the German team doesn't even allow many chances for the
"favorites".

In terms of football history you are very correct, too. Only 3 teams
in WC history had this entertainment level:
1974 Holland
1954 Hungary
those are common sense,
but

1934 Austria, hardly anyone knows this. Unfortunately the Austrian
Wunderteam was alreay on the decline, peaking from 1931-1933 where
they won with 5-0 and 6-0 against Germany.
And, the SF agaisnt Italy was the biggest scandal ever, if not, we
would have another World Cup Champion: Austria.

Wow, that's really long!
How did Prussia fare in the 18th century World Cups? Close matches
against Austria??

One thing is certain, an average striker who only ever
shone in the German 2nd league proved that he knows
a 1000 times more about football than the probably
best footballer of all times ever will.
