Interesting. Now let's weight national teams by the quality of the
clubs for which their selected players play. Initial, extremely coarse
weighting scheme:

4 points to CL finalists Inter + Bayern
3 points to CL semifinalists (Barca and OL)
2 points to CL quarterfinalists
1 point to CL 2nd rounders
0 points to everybody else.

You get the following ranking of national teams:

+--------------------------+
| country sum_ra~1 |
|--------------------------|
1. | France 44 |
2. | Germany 33 |
3. | Spain 30 |
4. | Brazil 24 |
5. | Argentina 18 |
|--------------------------|
6. | Netherlands 17 |
7. | England 12 |
8. | Serbia 11 |
9. | Portugal 11 |
10. | Cote d'Ivoire 10 |
|--------------------------|
11. | Cameroon 9 |
12. | Mexico 9 |
13. | Ghana 6 |
14. | Italy 6 |
15. | Slovenia 4 |
|--------------------------|
16. | Greece 4 |
17. | Denmark 3 |
18. | Nigeria 3 |
19. | Chile 2 |
20. | South Korea 2 |
|--------------------------|
21. | Japan 2 |
22. | Uruguay 2 |
23. | USA 1 |
24. | Honduras 0 |
25. | New Zealand 0 |
|--------------------------|
26. | Slovakia 0 |
27. | North Korea 0 |
28. | Australia 0 |
29. | Paraguay 0 |
30. | South Africa 0 |
|--------------------------|
31. | Algeria 0 |
32. | Switzerland 0 |
+--------------------------+

I'll see if I can improve on this ranking...

It already sounds good to me. But...

....you never know what peaks Futbolmetrix can achieve!

Surprise. Many of their regulars' countries didnt qualify (Fletcher,
Valencia, Barbietov, Giggs), but one would think they'd make up the
numbers with some reserves.

Even Everton, with 9, has more than Manchester United.

Basel also have 9, and quite a few of them are not with the Swiss MT.
