From: web-editor on 27 May 2010 05:48 We have been lined with a lot of players already this closed season but do we really need them. FWIW heres my take on it. As far as I can see the only reason we missed out on fourth place last season was because we have a huge, gaping chasm in midfield. Other teams exploited that and we became a team that dropped deep. If we fill that position then the next weakest position is left-back. After that we have a team and a squad which is good enough to look for a top 3 finish next season and a good cup run in one of the domestic cups, Europa, it will be interesting to see where that takes us. Attacking Midfield position : Well we could buy somebody, Milner has improved year on year and certainly looks, under O'Neill, that he could fill that spot. Gerrard is another that if we could prise him from Liverpool would be a fantastic acquisition. What about our long lost Brazillian Robinho, He is being re-called as I understand it and Mancini could do no worse than sit him down and see if they can fix the issue. If Robinho switched from his favoured wing position to inside attacking midfield he certainly has the ability to open up defences with channel passes to our striking partners Tevez and Adebayor. Ireland would appreciate playing again with Robinho and you would see a revitalised Ireland pushing to get on the pitch for gametime with Robinho as he knows that Robinho would spot the runs he makes. De Jong could offer the protection to Robinho which means he doesn't need to track back as our wingers and NDJ would do that job for him leaving him free to collect the ball and attack swiftly, something we haven't been able to do enough of and our stirkers look formidable when they do. I know a lot of City fans have lost complete patience with Robinho but in my eyes he is still a good player and could be used as the key to push us to a realistic top 3 finish next season which I would be happy with. Pretty much agree with your 2 positions Mark. Although I think several of the current back 4 (Toure, Richards and Zabaleta[lacks pace]) are barely good enough. Don't rate Gerrard. Robinho in centre mid is a really interesting idea though. But his heart's not with City, so it couldn't work, esp with such an emotional/moody player as him. It would be great to pack the whole midfield with technically gifted players - Robinho, Weiss, Ireland, both Johnsons - we would be pure entertainment!

Players like Robinho don't deserve to play for City as they frequently fail to put the required effort that all successful sides do. See also Adebayor. Fortunately we have a manager who can see this, and I expect both players to be replaced this summer. When we finally win something these 2, and more popular players like Ireland, SWP etc will be forgotten, believe me. Back Mancini and I don't think we'll have to wait too long.
