Sieg heil!" shouted one Irish fan as he proudly Nazi saluted the city's guests - scenes captured by our photographer. Then there were the football fans. Celtic and Ireland shirts were encased in Palestinian flags - any tactic to incite the opposition before such a decisive match. Passing pub-goers chanted: "Up the PLO. Up the IRA". Groups of marchers were soon echoing this. Arms raised aloft, the spectre of Nazi salutes again reared its ugly head on the route. Gardai turned a blind eye. One skin-headed man openly admitted to being an Irish Republican Army backer, the terrorists responsible for some of the worst violence in Ireland and Britain. http://www.jewishtelegraph.com/ire_4.html hypocrite.

If anything happens it's usually reported on celticminded but I didn't see anything. Paddy

According to the Gazzetta dello Sport on Thursday morning, a group of 50 Celtic fans laid a wreath at the monument to the Italian partisans in Milan on Wednesday. A nice gesture, and one I'm sure was appreciated by the locals and, I would have thought, by reasonable people everywhere. I ended up in the Milan end at the game and all of the guys around me were very pleasant throughout the game. It was a great trip to one of Europe's great stadiums and I'm already looking forward to next year's campaign. B.B.King |
