I meant "this is not *just* about a knowitall attitude".

There's usually a backstory to any interesting story :-)

(As in the case of Argentina, where Maradona was not giving a fake
German accent but imitating former president Kirchner when he was
threatening Clarin)

If you come in and take on the biggest tabloid in the land, you'd better
have arranged your weapons :-) This is similar to Bild in Germany, not
only with the NT but also with Bayern.

If the CBF hire Scolari Brazil won't win the WC in 2014. It never works
the 2nd time round, look at CAP and Lippi. Tabarez doesn't count because
Urguay didn't win the WC during his first stint. Bad idea IMO. Even
Leonardo is a better choice.

Hm. And Parreira (2006), Zagallo (1998), Feola (1966). (Not counting Zagallo
in 1974 because he wasn't recalled to coach the NT again, just stayed as
coach after 1970. But yeah, that was a loss too).

History certainly doesn't make giving a coach a second run look a smart
choice.

However, shouldn't we go with the best available name, regardless? Not that
I see Scolari as some kind of savior, or miracle worker. It's quite the
opposite, actually.

I don't know. Coming to think of it, Brazil's pool of coaches is fairly
lean.

CAP = Carlos Alberto Parreira.

Dunga was a brave choice and despite the meltdown against the Dutch
I thought he did very well and I greatly admired the ruthless, machine
like efficiency of his team although I appear to be in the minority.
Scolari has been awful since the World Cup, like CAP before him. They
peaked.

What about Lourenco or Zico?
