Why? What's the significance of the stellone? Shouldn't there be a red or white cross for Savoyard allegiance?

Up at the top, it is the "stellone d'Italia", the big star meant to bring good luck to the Savoy family and to protect the Kingdom of Italy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File%3ACoat_of_arms_of_the_Kingdom_of_Italy_%281870%29.svg A big star in a sea of light blue it is as much as Savoyard allegiant as it gets really ... BTW, after the Savoy lost the crown, the stellone was acquired not only by Somalia, but also by the new republic, this is in fact the official emblem of the Republic of Italy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Italy-Emblem.svg It is printed in all burocratic paraphernalia related to the Republic of Italy, passports, identity cards, driving licenses, all documents issued by the ministries, etc etc ... BTW, the word "stellone" is very commonly used by the Italian sport journalist in regard to the way the Italian NT plays, if they are noticing the NT is not playing convincingly, or is not leaded strongly by the "CT", i.e. "non ci si pu affidare sempre allo stellone" (we can't always leave it to the stellone [to bring luck and protect the NT]) or in general "affidarsi allo stellone" must be the most cliched sentece in sport journalism in Italian reallly ... -- ale http://ale.riolo.co.uk
