Ciao, SM -- http://www.gourockviews.co.uk I find the whole business of religion profoundly interesting. But it does mystify me that otherwise intelligent people take it seriously. Douglas Adams

Very well said. The problem is, that Germany haven't beaten a big football nation since (decades?). It's yet to do!

Sven toook the words out of my mouth, above. Their Mexico victory is the only thing that distinguishes them from the English, really (and I suppose reaching the 1990 final which was very lucky--two shootouts and the Brazil game.) I actually thought, until yesterday, that this team was much better than the 2006 one. I agree about those substitutions but really, they fell apart in the second half, just like yesterday. I thought they had dominated in the first half four years ago but they hardly ever threatened after scoring in the second. The image that will stay with me from yesterday is Maradona looking like an under-12 youth soccer coach after they fell behind--really. It was like, "What's this? We're always supposed to win!" And apparently at that point he had nothing to offer. DK

Klose injuring Abbondanzieri was the turning point of that match. |
